Baby Shower Decorations

By Joanne Elliott

Baby shower decorations can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like them to be. Of course the decisions that you choose to make will always be guided by more practical considerations such as overall budget, price range, and the total number of guests that you have invited. The size and scale of the baby shower is completely linked to the amount of money that you want to invest into the occasion. Having said that, there are always ways around making the occasion really special even if you feel you must limit yourself to a shoestring budget. Let's not forget that the entire purpose of the gathering is far more important than the peripheral decorations. The fact is that a baby shower is a celebration of the birth of your child, and that in itself is enough to create a great feeling of glitz and glamour. There is no definitive "right way" of decorating your baby shower, except to say it should be something that you are happy with, that is fun and comfortable, and most importantly will not break the bank.

Traditional Baby Shower Decorations

Traditional baby shower decorations differ from gender to gender, state to state, and culture to culture. Baby shower decorations can be as simple or as ornate as you want them to be. Here are some ideas to help get you thinking:

  • Lawn Signs

Lawn signs are a great idea if you are having your baby shower at home. Not only will you be announcing your good news to the entire world, it will also serve to help your guests find your home. This will be especially useful if some of the guests have not been to your home before, or are having to travel in order to attend.

  • Balloons

In the same way balloons tied to your front door or fence will highlight the fact that it is a celebration, and help set the party mood even before your guests arrive.

  • Ribbons and banners

Ribbons and banners can be used both outside and inside your venue. You could get generic baby shower banners, or you could splash out and get them personalized. This could be a simple as selective wording, or names, or even a photograph of the baby scan, for example. The same principle applies to other popular baby shower decorations, including garlands and sashes.

  • Center pieces and table decorations

Center pieces are always a good idea at any party, but you can have the most fun with a baby shower centre piece. Whether you choose to be tradition in design with pastel shades or more playful with bright bold colors a centre piece will certainly add a sense of occasion to your table.

  • Confetti and glitter

You can use confetti and glitter to add a little extra pizzazz to the occasion. Simply scatter some sparkle around the venue to really lift the mood. You can also help create a theme in this way by color coordinating the glitter or confetti to match your other chosen baby shower decorations.
